Massawa

In 2007, the Project Management Institute considered Massawa the best project management training in the world – PMI Award 2007 (search for word ‘Massava’ on PMI website).

Massawa the training game simulates the realization of a complex building plan (the participants arranged several thousand Lego blocks). This project, however, is a background to simulate processes of communication and cooperation in a project group. The participants quickly forget that they are in a training room and they quickly take on the roles and attitudes they represent everyday in projects. Due to the fact that this is only a game, it is easier to distance oneself from mistakes and draw serious conclusions.

Massawa the strategy game is a tool for any company whose development is based on project work. The need for effective project management is the ground to use the workshop to change attitudes and competence of participants in the game. The main aspect is to acquaint participants with the principles and methodological possibilities of working with projects in a practical manner. It is primarily a change in attitude of staff towards the procedures and methodologies of project management. The project working methods and a full range of methodological and organizational issues created by a company must become part of each project team member’s work. Communication in the project and interpersonal aspects of work are crucial in each project group. For these reasons the development of these competences can be the key to the success of many projects.

Organisational issues

The training is directed to a broad audience. Depending on the tasks performed by the participants ic will realize the specific goals and objectives. The participants can be a group of unrelated people as well as a well-functioning project team. In this case the result of the game is to consolidate and integrate teams on the level of task enforcement.

Massawa is offered in a one-and two-day formula. From 8 to 48 people can  simutaneously participate in the training, while one group may count from 8 to 12 (a maximum of 4 parallel training groups). The only thing we need from the organization is a large room (at least 25 m2 per group), two coffee breaks and lunch during the day.
